What the...?

Thoughts on what happened on Monday, from someone who wasn't there:

- Every was still digesting all the food from Simon's BBQ.
- We were all anxious to get in line for upcoming Transformers movie.
- Too many all-hammer points.
- Lee Anne von Gouligan turned out to be a triple agent. I can't believe she played us all for chumps.
- Austin, Chris, Dan L and Nadia making their case for MVP.
- Field not marked to correct dimensions.
- You mean we're supposed to catch the disc?
- Thrown off by Godzilla vs Mecha-Godzilla fight.

Any comments, from those who were there? What can we do better?

Translation Time

Thanks to our new super-secret intelligence program, we have uncovered some inside information from our opponents this Monday: Big Hammers. Thanks to our under-cover Hound (let's call her "Lee Anne von Gouligan" so we don't blow her cover), we have received a confidential memorandum regarding the game on Monday.

I have run this coded transmission through a series of decryption programs to discover its true meaning (along with trying to get through the spelling and grammar mistakes). The following is extremely sensitive, for your eyes only, and any mention of the following must be disavowed should you be questioned by anyone on Big Hammers:

Yo Team,
[Translation: Greetings and salutations comrades.]

BIG HAMMERS vs. release the hounds
[Translation: Zone zone zone zone, zone zone zone...zone, zone zone.]

This one will be a beating death of a pack of dogs....hopefully those PETA people won't come out and watch this...it's going to be pretty dirty
[Translation: I am very concerned about this game. Not only does this team have our two best girls, but they are also funnier and better looking than us. Hopefully CUPA won't come out and watch this, as they may give our Regionals bid to them, based on the fact that they are so much more awesome than we are. Apparently they are good flatball players as well.]

It's amazing that TUC actually has this game up a week in advance...but believe it....
[Translation: I laud TUC and their willingness to change their scheduling system, thus forcing their conveners to have to create the schedule on a weekly basis. Where do we play next week, anyway?]

We're on field #5....which is the field nearest the Basketball Court.
[Translation: Perhaps we should challenge them to basketball, since it may be our best chance to win.]

Lyanne and Nat please have your team their on time....the game ends at 8:20pm, because the park is unsafe
[Translation: Lyanne and Nat, we hope your team is late...we would like to start counting points until you arrive...we need all the points we can get... After all, we remember what happened when we played last year. The game ends at 8:20, because that is when Simon has to go home before Olympia kills him.]


The Hammers are known for their athleticism and energetic play, so should they get aggressive, just think of this:

The Horde is coming

After three relatively easy games to start the season, we have a tough one coming up on Monday. Disc-Horde has been playing together for awhile, and we will recognize quite a few of the players from Wasabi. I'm looking forward to our first big challenge of the Summer, and I'm not talking about figuring out how we're going to get to Finch/Midland by 6:30.

We have been fortunate so far to have played teams ranked lower than us (currently 13th, 23rd and 25th respectively), but we're getting to the stage where we must be focused for each point. Against Flowbee we had some mistakes at their endzone that we can't allow to happen against a top team like this. We have too many handlers to feel the need to force throws into tight spots to score. No more than three people should be in the endzone, and simply working the disc around while waiting for someone to get open should result in less turnovers and more points. When possible, a 3-person vert stack can be set up.

On defense, hard man-d will be a key to success, but a zone may also be used to change the pace. Some zoney things to work on from last game: a tighter cup, a lot more communication and mids need to pick up open players on downfield and on swing passes.

Hopefully they will be stupid like this horde, but I doubt it:

Flowbee

Since we're playing against Flowbee this week, of course I was doing my intensive research and came across this picture:

Is it me, or does he look exactly like Randy Johnson, who is now pitching for the Arizona Diamonbacks. I consider this one to be the "before picture":

As for strategy for the game on Monday...umm...I got nothing. But I'll think of something tomorrow. What else am I going to do...work?

Here it Goes Again...

A new look, and a new Hound

We had Game #2 last night and let's just say, it was nice to see everyone. Unfortunately for both sides, the result was a lopsided 17-4 score for the good guys. Grilled Cheese definitely has some potential, but last night it was quite the mismatch. But we wish them well and perhaps we will see them later after some seasoning. It was still a great night to play some flatball, so no complaints here. We also had the official debut of Owen, who looked pretty good in the endzone.

There was a notable delivery, but it had nothing to do with Simon missing the game. As far as I know, Olympia (and Simon) is still waiting to pop out Simon Junior, but in the meantime our snazzy new shirts made their first appearance. Modelling below is Austin, who along with Cindy are expecting their first child! Congratulations!

With or without Ketchup?

Game #2 pits us up against Grilled Cheese, not to be confused with Cold Grilled Cheese (another Monday team). I'm not familiar with this team, so we'll have to be ready for anything. Anyone know what this team is about?

Tonight we could see some more of the HO, as well as some zone defense. And perhaps we'll finally get our new jerseys, but only if you have paid Simon.

Also, D(elivery)-Day is approaching for Simon and Olympia, which means that yours truly will be steering the ship in his absence. Just don't do anything to make me shake my fist at you.
