The Horde is coming

After three relatively easy games to start the season, we have a tough one coming up on Monday. Disc-Horde has been playing together for awhile, and we will recognize quite a few of the players from Wasabi. I'm looking forward to our first big challenge of the Summer, and I'm not talking about figuring out how we're going to get to Finch/Midland by 6:30.

We have been fortunate so far to have played teams ranked lower than us (currently 13th, 23rd and 25th respectively), but we're getting to the stage where we must be focused for each point. Against Flowbee we had some mistakes at their endzone that we can't allow to happen against a top team like this. We have too many handlers to feel the need to force throws into tight spots to score. No more than three people should be in the endzone, and simply working the disc around while waiting for someone to get open should result in less turnovers and more points. When possible, a 3-person vert stack can be set up.

On defense, hard man-d will be a key to success, but a zone may also be used to change the pace. Some zoney things to work on from last game: a tighter cup, a lot more communication and mids need to pick up open players on downfield and on swing passes.

Hopefully they will be stupid like this horde, but I doubt it:

6:30, Sir William Osler (1050 Huntingwood Dr - south of Finch, east of Kennedy). Bring your white and purple jerseys.

Now that the Horde has been lead over the cliff, I think we should talk about things we did well and things we need to work on.

I'll kick things off.
After a few rushed points I think we generally had good patience, but there was a bit of a tendency to focus on the long pass.

Good game last night team. It was fun to have a bit of an opposition, and to notice how much flow we already have early in the season.

For the stuff to work on, I agree with Tien and Chirs:
-Patience on O
-Swing it early in the stall count to use more of the open field
-No stupid dump passes (Pierre, I'm looking at you)

Apparently Pierre reads this while looking in the mirror.

I don't think we necessarily focused on the long passes...we took what they gave us, and they seemed to give us the deep strike. With the way our defense was playing, I thought it was the turnovers on short passes that hurt us more, as they really took advantage of our mistakes. So only long passes from now on!

Plus, making long passes opens up the short game...later in the game they were calling out to each other to watch the long pass, which opened up the in-cuts for us. That, and they got tired.

We do need to use the swing pass more. If you can break your mark and make a good pass to the middle of the field, that opens up tonnes of space to keep the flow going. We continually look to make passes up the line, and there is not room available when you do that. Swinging it, and even going back 15 yards in doing so, opens up the field sooooo much.
